About the TEAM
Almost Human is a project dedicated to making music creation accessible to everyone through AI. We believe AI should enhance the creative process, not replace the essence of being a musician. This project focuses on innovative applications of AI to generate new musical ideas and effects, using it as a tool to achieve unique sounds and develop novel methods. As an artist and researcher, I explore the potential of learning algorithms to express creativity and push the boundaries of what is possible in music. Almost Human is committed to integrating AI in a way that supports and expands the creative process, ensuring technology serves the artist.
About the SONG
Yesterday stretches a moment in time, painting it with emotion, feeling, and groove to transport you to a better place. Realty is really what we make it. AI is mixed into the fabric of the song, but at its core, it shows new methods of expressing creativity and beauty.
About the HUMAN-AI PROCESS
The main motivation for this project was to explore novel sampling techniques, with the fundamental rule being to use AI as a tool rather than a creative replacement. This meant avoiding text-to-song models, although text-to-audio was permissible.
The methods employed in this project centered around the following open-source models:
Stable Audio Open by Stability AI
Dance Diffusion by Harmonai
Retrieval-based Voice Conversion (RVC)
Technique: Using Diffusion as a Resampler
By utilizing small amounts of data as a corpus, Stable Audio Open was trained to generate variations on that data, enabling the creation of novel sounds. This track employed Stable Audio Open for ambient textures, vocal phrases, piano samples, and wavetable generation. Dance Diffusion was utilized to generate all percussion sounds in the song.
The idea generation process for creating the track "Yesterday" was unconventional for me. Instead of focusing on melody or lyrics, I conceptualized the song using diverse data sources, akin to listening to various tracks to find samples for a hip-hop beat.
