ABSTRACT: In 2020, many teams of the AI Song Contest approached the music and sound design aspects of their entry separately, using different ML models. This year, we see teams crossing that boundary, seeding generative audio models with symbolically generated material performed and produced by the teams’ musicians, and vice versa where the generated strange audio glitches, rhythms, and sonic textures fuel the symbolic and emotional structure of their song, creating a new kind of call and response and interdependence between music and sound design.
